Yasuha was born on January 17, 1961, in Taitō, Tokyo, Japan. She is the daughter of Japanese comedian Hayashiya Sanpei Ⅰ and novelist Ebina Kayoko. Growing up in a family with a strong entertainment background, Yasuha was exposed to the world of performance arts from a young age. Her sister, Midori Ebina, even pursued a career as an actress. Yasuha's two brothers, Hayashiya Shōzō IX and Hayashiya Sanpei II, followed in their father's footsteps and became comedians.
As a child, Yasuha learned classical music and harbored dreams of attending a music college to further her training in the genre. However, when she failed to gain acceptance into a music college, she decided to pivot her career aspirations towards becoming a Japanese pop singer and television personality. In 1981, Yasuha made her debut as a singer with the release of the single "Flyday Chinatown." The same year, she also dropped her debut album titled "Transit."
Yasuha's "Transit" album drew inspiration from artists such as Billy Joel and his contemporaries, showcasing her eclectic taste in music. Apart from her musical pursuits, Yasuha also dabbled in writing, publishing a book that chronicled her divorce from actor Koasa Shunpûtei. She also had a brief engagement to an Iranian businessman named Mehdi Kazempour, whom she met on Facebook, though the relationship eventually ended.
Interestingly, the Pokémon character Wobbuffet is said to be an homage to Yasuha's father, Sanpei, further illustrating her family's influence on popular culture. In addition to her familial connections, Yasuha found herself intertwined with other notable figures in the Japanese music scene. She and fellow singer Miki Matsubara were contemporaries in the industry, carving out their own paths in the world of Japanese music.
