Early Life and Education

Yasin Malik, born on March 3, 1966, in Kashmir, India, is a prominent Kashmiri separatist leader who has dedicated his life to advocating for the independence of Kashmir from both India and Pakistan. He completed his graduation from S. P. College and it was during his formative years that he realized the injustices faced by the people of Kashmir.

Rise to Prominence

In the year 1980, Yasin Malik founded a political party called the Tala Party, which aimed to bring about revolutionary change in Kashmir. The party printed and distributed political materials, and caused disturbances to bring attention to the Kashmiri cause. Yasin Malik quickly gained a reputation as a fierce advocate for the rights of Kashmiris.

Leading the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front

Yasin Malik went on to become the chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, an organization that spearheaded armed militancy in the Kashmir Valley. Under his leadership, the JKLF became a powerful voice for Kashmiri independence and garnered support from both within Kashmir and internationally.

Challenges and Conviction

In May of 2022, Yasin Malik faced a major setback when he was convicted by the NIA Court on charges of conspiracy and waging war against the state. Yasin Malik comes from a family of activists, with his father Ghulam Qadir Malik being a prominent figure in Kashmiri politics. He has three sisters, including Amina Malik, who has been a staunch advocate for better prisoner's rights for Yasin Malik during his time at Tihar Jail.
