Walter Mirisch was born on August 11, 1921, in New York City, New York. He was the son of Jewish immigrants, Joseph and Frances Mirisch. Growing up, Walter was surrounded by creativity and ambition, as his father worked as a clothing manufacturer and his mother as a homemaker.

In 1957, Walter, along with his brothers Marvin and Harold, founded The Mirisch Corporation, an independent filmmaking organization. Together, they produced almost 100 film projects throughout their long and successful careers. The Mirisch Corporation became known for producing high-quality films that appealed to a wide audience.
Throughout his career, Walter received three Producer of the Year awards from three different prominent organizations. His dedication to producing quality films that resonated with audiences and critics alike did not go unnoticed.
