Tom Ruegger was born on April 4, 1954 in Metuchen, New Jersey. He developed a passion for animation at a young age and was inspired by the classic cartoons of his childhood. Ruegger attended Metuchen High School before pursuing higher education at Dartmouth College. At Dartmouth, he studied English Literature as his major with a minor in Film Studies and Animation.
During his time at Dartmouth College in 1976, Ruegger created his first cartoon titled The Premiere of Platypus Duck, showcasing his talent and love for animation. His career took off when he started working at Filmation, where he wrote for Gilligan's Planet. Ruegger later transitioned to Hanna-Barbera, where he wrote and produced various animated series, including The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries, Snorks, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, Pound Puppies, and A Pup Named Scooby-Doo.
Ruegger's career skyrocketed when he began working alongside legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg at Warner Bros. Animation in 1989. Together, they created iconic animated series such as Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, and Histeria!. Ruegger's creativity and unique storytelling abilities shone through in these beloved shows, earning him recognition as a trailblazer in the animation industry.
Tom Ruegger was married to voice actress Adrienne Alexander from 1983 to 2004, and they have three sons named Nathan, Luke, and Cody. His sons have also made their mark in the entertainment industry, providing voice work for characters in their father's animated series. In 2006, Ruegger married Annie Malley, continuing to find love and support in his personal life.
