Tom Barrett was born on August 8, 1953 in Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned his undergraduate degree in Economics. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, obtaining a Law degree.
Barrett began his political career by serving in the Wisconsin Senate from 1989 to 1993. He then went on to serve in the United States House of Representatives from 1993 to 2003. In 2004, Barrett was elected as the fortieth Mayor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a position he held for over a decade.
Barrett made two unsuccessful bids for the Wisconsin gubernatorial race in 2010 and 2012, losing both times to Republican politician Scott Walker. Despite the defeats, Barrett remained dedicated to public service and continued to work for the people of Milwaukee.
Barrett is married to Kris Barrett, with whom he has three daughters named Kate, Erin, and Annie, as well as one son named Tommy. Family has always been a priority for Barrett, and he values the support they provide him in his political endeavors.
In 2009, Barrett had a significant discussion with Vice President Joe Biden during a national recovery conference. The conference, spearheaded by Biden, focused on important issues facing the nation and allowed Barrett to collaborate with other political leaders to find solutions.
