Susan Calman was born on June 6, 1974, in Scotland. She grew up in Glasgow, Scotland, as the daughter of Anne Wilkie and Sir Kenneth Calman, a university chancellor and national Chief Medical Officer. Calman, along with her two siblings, had a relatively normal childhood in Glasgow.
After graduating from Glasgow University with a law degree, Calman initially pursued a career in law, working at the prestigious firm Dundas & Wilson. However, she soon realized that her true passion lay in comedy.
