Steve Charles Emtman was born on April 16, 1970 in Spokane, Washington. He attended Cheney High School where he excelled in both academics and athletics.
In 1988, Emtman graduated from Cheney High School and went on to play college football at the University of Washington. During his time at the university, he was part of the team that won the Rose Bowl for the first time in 9 seasons.
Emtman's college football career was nothing short of phenomenal. He won the Outland Trophy, Lombardi Award, and was the Bill Willis Award winner. Additionally, he was named the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and the UPU Lineman of the Year.
