Born George Clinton Fisher, Jr. on September 26, 1907, in Grady County, Oklahoma, Shug Fisher was the fourth and youngest child of a Scots-Irish farmer father and a half-Native American (Choctaw) mother. Growing up in rural Oklahoma, Fisher developed a love for music and entertainment from a young age.
At the age of seventeen, Fisher attended a traveling comedy show that sparked his desire to become an entertainer. Determined to pursue his dream, he packed his bags and headed to California. Upon arriving in Los Angeles, Fisher began playing the fiddle in a country band known as the Hollywood Hillbillies. His musical talents quickly caught the attention of audiences and fellow performers alike.
While performing with the Hollywood Hillbillies, Fisher's comedic talents began to shine through.
