Sharyn Mary-Ellen Wakefield, better known as Sharyn Casey, was born on December 24, 1985, in Porirua, New Zealand. She spent most of her childhood in Timaru before moving to Christchurch at the age of 13. Later, she relocated to Wellington, where she attended Tawa College.
During her time in Wellington, Sharyn worked in the signing tent for the record store Sounds at Edgefest. It was here that Sounds' marketing manager inspired her to pursue a career in radio. The following day, she applied for radio school and was accepted to study broadcasting at the NZ Radio Training School.
Sharyn's career in radio kicked off in April 2006 when she started working at The Edge after winning the promotion Quit Your Day Job. She quickly became a well-known radio host on The Edge's drive show, The Edge Afternoons with Sharyn & Jayden.
In addition to her radio work, Sharyn also made a name for herself on television. She became a host on the New Zealand version of Dancing with the Stars and a celebrity panelist on The Masked Singer NZ. Her presence on social media also grew, with 10,000 followers on TikTok, 10,000 on Twitter, 20,000 on Facebook, and 80,000 on Instagram.
In 2012, Sharyn married Bryce Casey, a radio host at The Rock. The couple has two sons and a beloved dog named Warren G, named after the rapper Warren G.
As a judge on The Masked Singer NZ, Sharyn had the opportunity to preside over contestants such as Suzy Cato, Madeleine Sami, and Stephen Donald. Her charismatic personality and quick wit have endeared her to audiences across New Zealand.
