Shannon Walker was born on April 4, 1965 in Houston, Texas. From a young age, she was fascinated by outer space and dreamed of becoming an astronaut. She attended Westbury High School in Houston and went on to pursue a degree in physics at Rice University. In 1993, she successfully defended her doctoral dissertation and earned a PhD in space physics.
After completing her education, Walker began her career as a research scientist at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Her work focused on the effects of space radiation on astronauts and spacecraft.
