Shane Cross was born on August 22, 1986, in Gold Coast, Australia. He was raised alongside his siblings Erin, Sarah, Michael, and Megan. From a young age, Shane showed a keen interest in skateboarding and began honing his skills on the streets of Queensland in the early 2000's.
As Shane continued to push the boundaries of skateboarding, he quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and style on the board. He caught the attention of industry insiders and was soon featured in major skateboarding magazines such as Transworld Skateboarding and Thrasher. In 2005, Shane was honored with the prestigious title of Slam Magazine’s Skateboarder of the Year, a testament to his influence and impact on the skateboarding community.
Tragically, Shane's promising career was cut short when he was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident in 2007 at the young age of 20. His untimely death sent shockwaves through the skateboarding world, leaving his friends, family, and fans devastated. The loss of Shane was felt deeply by his close friend and fellow Flip skater, Arto Saari, who made the difficult decision to leave the company they had both been a part of.
Despite his short-lived career, Shane Cross's legacy lives on through his innovative skateboarding style and the impact he made on the sport. His fearless attitude and dedication to pushing the boundaries of what was possible on a skateboard continue to inspire a new generation of skaters.
Shane Cross may have left us too soon, but his memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew and admired him. He will forever be remembered as one of the most talented and influential Australian skateboarders of his generation.
