Sebastián Marroquín, born on February 24, 1977 in Colombia, is an architect and author best known for being the son of infamous Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. Growing up in the shadow of his father's criminal empire, Marroquín experienced a childhood like no other. When his father was killed in 1993, he and his remaining family fled to Mozambique to escape the violent aftermath of Escobar's death.
After leaving Mozambique, Marroquín settled in Argentina, where he decided to distance himself from his father's legacy by dropping the Escobar surname. Despite his efforts to start fresh, Marroquín soon realized that he would never truly be able to escape his family history.
In 2009, Marroquín participated in the documentary Sins of My Father, where he met with victims of his father's drug operation and publicly apologized on behalf of his family. This experience inspired him to write a book about his unique upbringing, titled Pablo Escobar: My Father, which was published in 2014.
Seeking to carve out his own path separate from his father's criminal enterprises, Marroquín launched his own line of organic clothing called Escobar Henao. Through this venture, he aimed to promote sustainability and ethical business practices, proving that he was determined to use his platform for positive change.
In 2003, Marroquín married a woman named Maria, starting his own family and focusing on creating a stable and loving home environment. He also has a sister named Manuela, who has also sought to move past their family's dark past and make a name for herself outside of the Escobar legacy.
Like Michael Franzese, another famous crime boss' son, Marroquín has had to navigate the complexities of coming to terms with his father's criminal activities and the impact they had on countless lives. Despite the challenges he has faced, Marroquín continues to work towards building a positive legacy for himself and his family, showing that it is possible to rise above a troubled past and create a brighter future.
