Scott Brown was born on December 9, 1959 in Kittery, Maine. He grew up in a military family, as his father served in the Air Force. Brown attended Wakefield High School in Wakefield, Massachusetts, where he was a star basketball player. After graduating, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he earned a degree in History.
After graduating from college, Brown continued his service in the Army National Guard. In 2011, he was deployed again as part of his Guard obligation. Brown's military background would later play a significant role in his political career.
Before entering politics, Brown had a successful career as a model in the 1980s. During his 2009 campaign for the United States Senate, it was revealed that he had posed nude for a Cosmopolitan centerfold in 1982. Despite the controversy, Brown won the election and became the United States Senator from Massachusetts from 2010 to 2013.
During his time in the Senate, Brown supported the controversial Massachusetts health care law that required all state citizens to have health insurance. He also advocated for expanding alternative energy sources and offshore drilling. Brown was known for his support of the troop "surge" in Afghanistan, basing his views on the recommendations of top military officials, including General Stanley McChrystal.
