Roger Mooking was born on December 14, 1973, in Trinidad and Tobago. At the age of 5, he and his family moved to Canada, where he was raised. Mooking comes from a diverse background with Trinidadian and Chinese descent.
After receiving his professional culinary degree from George Brown College of Hospitality, Mooking embarked on a successful career in the culinary world. He co-owned two prominent restaurants in Toronto, Ontario: Kultura Social Dining and Nyood Restaurants. His unique approach to cooking and passion for flavor soon caught the attention of television producers.
Mooking gained widespread recognition for his appearances on various cooking shows across North America. He showcased his culinary skills on popular programs such as "Chopped: Canada," "Good Morning America," and "Iron Chef America." Additionally, he served as the host and co-creator of the cooking show "Everyday Exotic," which aired on both the Cooking Channel in the US and Food Network Canada.
Aside from his culinary talents, Mooking is also a talented musician. He was a member of the soul group Bass is Base in the 1990s before transitioning to a solo career. In June 2013, he released his second solo album titled "Feedback." Throughout his music career, Mooking had the opportunity to perform alongside legendary artists such as Celine Dion and James Brown.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Mooking is a devoted family man. He values his Trinidadian heritage and incorporates it into both his culinary creations and music. Mooking's diverse background and experiences have shaped him into the multi-talented individual he is today.
