He grew up in a wealthy and influential family, as his father, Robert Lowell Moore, was the co-founder of the Sheraton hotel chain. In 1969, he published "The French Connection: A True Account of Cops, Narcotics, and International Conspiracy," which delved into the world of drug trafficking and law enforcement. His other notable works include "The Khaki Mafia" (1971) and "The Fifth Estate" (1973).
Outside of his writing career, Moore led a fascinating personal life. He spent time in the Caribbean, where he worked as a hotel employee and witnessed the early years of Fidel Castro's Cuban presidency. His experiences in the region inspired his non-fiction book, "The Devil to Pay." Moore's firsthand account of Castro's rise to power shed light on a tumultuous period in Cuban history.
