Reese Cates was born on December 1, 1989, in El Dorado, Arkansas, and was raised in a family that had a deep passion for rodeo. From a young age, Reese was exposed to the world of bull riding, thanks to his father who was also a professional bull rider. He quickly developed a love for the sport and began practicing with his best friend, Chase Outlaw, who would also go on to become a professional bull rider.
Reese's talent and dedication to the sport quickly became apparent, and he began competing in local rodeo events. In 2008, he made his professional debut and took home the honor of Rookie of the Year for the season. His rise to success was further cemented when he earned a high-mark ride of 91 points on Firewater at the Built Ford Tough World Finals in November 2008. Reese's fearless riding style and natural talent made him a force to be reckoned with in the world of bull riding.
Despite his early success, Reese faced significant challenges in his career. The 2013 season proved to be a rough one for him, as he suffered a series of injuries that included three crushed ribs, a collapsed lung, and a dislocated shoulder with torn ligaments. These setbacks tested Reese's resilience and determination, but he refused to let them deter him from pursuing his dreams.
Outside of bull riding, Reese enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He shares a passion for hunting with his best friend Chase Outlaw and MLB pitcher Andrew Cashner, and the trio often go on hunting trips together in their free time. Reese's love for the outdoors and his adventurous spirit are evident in his hobbies and interests outside of the arena.
