Raymond Carlos Nakai was born on April 16, 1946 in Arizona. He is of Navajo and Ute heritage, which has had a profound influence on his music and career as a flautist. Growing up, Nakai was immersed in the rich traditions and music of his Native American roots, which sparked his passion for playing the flute.
