Prabal Gurung was born on March 31, 1979, in Singapore, into a Nepalese family. He spent his early days in Singapore before moving to Kathmandu, Nepal, where he spent the remainder of his childhood. Growing up, Gurung was always drawn to the world of fashion and design.
After earning a degree in hotel management, Gurung decided to pursue his true passion and enrolled at India's National Institute of Fashion Technology in New Delhi. He then sought career opportunities in England and Australia before eventually making his way to New York City to study at Parsons School of Design.
Upon graduating from Parsons, Gurung honed his skills by working with renowned designers Cynthia Rowley and Bill Blass. He gained valuable experience and insight into the fashion industry, which would serve him well in the years to come.
