Polycarp Otieno, born on November 14, 1987 in Kenya, discovered his passion for music at a young age. Growing up, he took free guitar lessons at All Saints Cathedral, where he quickly developed his skills and fell in love with the instrument.
After completing high school, Polycarp went on to pursue a degree in actuarial science at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. However, his true calling was music. He began performing in local clubs and bars, honing his craft and gaining recognition in the Kenyan music scene.
Polycarp's big break came when he joined forces with Bien-Aimé Baraza, Chimano, and Savara Mudigi to form the music group Sauti Sol. The band quickly rose to fame with their unique blend of afro-pop and R&B music. Their albums, such as Mwanzo and Sol Filosofia, garnered widespread acclaim and solidified their status as one of Kenya's most beloved music acts.
Aside from his work with Sauti Sol, Polycarp has also made a name for himself as a talented producer. He has collaborated with renowned artists like Lady Jay Dee, Dela, and Suzanna Owiyo, bringing his distinct sound and musical expertise to their projects.
Polycarp's contributions to the music industry have not gone unnoticed. In July 2015, he was voted KIIS FM's Man Crush Monday, further solidifying his place as a heartthrob and musical icon in Kenya.
When he's not busy making music, Polycarp enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is known for his charismatic personality and infectious energy, both on and off the stage. Despite his success, he remains humble and grateful for the opportunities that music has brought into his life.
Polycarp's talent and passion for music have taken him far, from humble beginnings in Kenya to performing for none other than President Barack Obama. His journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and dedication, and his impact on the music industry continues to inspire aspiring artists around the world.
