Peter Mills, born on March 6, 1943, in Maine, was destined for a life of public service. He attended Harvard College where he excelled academically, graduating with honors. After college, Mills chose to serve his country by joining the U.S. Navy, where he spent time on destroyers and was recognized with both a Navy Achievement Medal and a Navy Commendation Medal.
Mills' political career began when he was elected to the Maine Senate in 1996, where he served until 2010. During his time in office, Mills gained a reputation for his dedication to economic development and his commitment to improving the lives of Maine residents.
Although Mills made unsuccessful bids for governor in 2006 and 2010, his passion for public service never wavered. In addition to his time in the Senate, Mills also had a successful 32-year law career in Maine. He co-founded the Somerset Economic Development Corporation and FirstPark, organizations dedicated to promoting economic growth in the region.
Outside of his political and professional endeavors, Mills found love with Nancy Mills, a Superior Court justice. The couple shared a deep commitment to their community and worked together to make Maine a better place for all of its residents.
