Joshua Gabriel Gard, better known by his stage name Paper Diamond, was born on June 9, 1984 in Boulder, Colorado. Growing up in a musically inclined family, Gard was exposed to a wide variety of genres from a young age. He developed a passion for music and began experimenting with different instruments, ultimately finding his calling in electronic music production.
Gard's journey in the music industry began in 2004 when he joined the dance music group Pnuma Trio as a bassist. This experience allowed him to hone his skills and gain valuable insight into the world of electronic music. In addition to his work with Pnuma Trio, Gard also founded his own record label, design company, and store, Elm & Oak, in downtown Boulder, Colorado.
After parting ways with Pnuma Trio, Gard launched his solo career as a DJ under the alias Alex B. In 2011, he rebranded himself as Paper Diamond and released his debut album Levitate under Pretty Lights Music.
