Nicholas Godejohn was born on May 20, 1989, in Big Bend, Wisconsin. Growing up, he had a fairly typical childhood, but little did he know that his life would take a dark turn in the years to come. In 2012, Godejohn met Gypsy Rose Blanchard through a Christian dating website. Despite the distance between them, the two formed a close bond that would ultimately lead them down a dangerous path.
In June 2015, Godejohn traveled to Springfield, Missouri, where Gypsy and her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, lived. It was there that a horrifying crime took place. Godejohn, at Gypsy's urging, brutally murdered Dee Dee in her home. The motive behind the murder was revealed to be Godejohn's desire to be with Gypsy and his belief that he was helping her escape from her mother's abuse.
In the aftermath of the murder, Godejohn and Gypsy were both arrested and charged with first-degree murder. In February 2019, Godejohn was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole, plus an additional 25 years. This verdict ensured that he would never again taste freedom, a heavy price to pay for the violent act he committed.
Godejohn's involvement in the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard garnered significant media attention, with many outlets reporting on the shocking crime. He was even featured in a 20/20 story titled "The Story of Gypsy Blanchard," where he shared his side of the story. Additionally, his character was portrayed by Calum Worthy in the Hulu series "The Act," further immortalizing his role in the tragic events that unfolded.
Looking back on his life, Godejohn's story serves as a cautionary tale about the destructive power of love and the lengths some people will go to for it. His actions have had far-reaching consequences, not only for himself and Gypsy but also for the families of those involved. As he spends the rest of his days behind bars, one can only wonder what might have been if he had made different choices.
