Narelle Kheng was born on September 24, 1993 in Singapore. Growing up, she was always surrounded by music and creativity. Her parents encouraged her and her brother, Benjamin, to pursue their passions, whether it was swimming or music.
In May of 2012, Narelle, along with her brother Benjamin and their friends Sandra Riley Tang and Jonathan Chua, decided to form a band. They named themselves The Sam Willows and began performing around Singapore, gaining a following with their unique blend of pop and indie music.
Just a few months after forming the band, The Sam Willows released a self-titled EP in 2012. The EP featured the song "Glasshouse," which quickly became a fan favorite. The band's music video for the song was released in 2013 and garnered attention both locally and internationally.
