Montana Yao was born on May 8, 1997 in Newport Beach, California. She was raised as the only child of her parents, Paul and Gina Yao.
Yao attended Maranatha High School in Pasadena for part of her education before transferring to Malibu High School for her senior year, graduating in 2015.
After finishing high school, Montana Yao pursued a career in modeling. Her big break came when she won the title of Miss Malibu Teen USA in 2016. This achievement propelled her to the top ten contestants in the Miss California Teen USA pageant that same year.
