Michael Carney was born on September 1, 1982, in Ohio, to parents Jim Carney and Mary Stormer. He grew up in Akron, Ohio, alongside his brother, Patrick Carney. Their father, Jim, and mother, Mary, instilled a love for the arts in both of their sons from a young age.
