Max Handelman was born on March 5, 1979, in Portland, Oregon. Growing up, he developed a passion for both film and sports, setting the stage for his future career as a film producer and sportswriter.
Handelman attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated in 1995 with a bachelor's degree. It was during his time at UPenn that he met his future wife, actress Elizabeth Banks.
