Max Becker was born on July 14, 1993, in Oakland, California. He grew up surrounded by music, as his brother Cole Becker and Joey Armstrong founded a band called The Raining Souls when Max was just a child. Seeing his older brother and Joey playing together inspired Max to pick up an instrument and join in the fun.
When Max was old enough, he was brought into The Raining Souls to play bass. The band rehearsed in the Becker family garage, with Max learning the ropes of performing and songwriting alongside his brother and Joey. This early experience laid the foundation for Max's future in music.
As The Raining Souls evolved, the band went through several name changes. In 2008, they became known as The Clocks before switching to Emily's Army in 2009. The final name change came in 2015 when they rebranded as Swmrs. Each name change represented a new chapter in the band's journey and growth.
As a member of Swmrs, Max found success as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist. The band's raucous beach punk rock sound resonated with fans around the world, earning them a dedicated following and critical acclaim. Swmrs' music was a reflection of Max's passion for creating energetic and rebellious music.
The name change to Emily's Army was a poignant decision made in honor of Max and Cole's cousin Emily, who battled Cystic Fibrosis. The band wanted to use their platform to raise awareness and funds for research, shining a spotlight on an important cause close to their hearts.
In 2011, Swmrs released their first studio album, which was recorded under the close tutelage of Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong. The collaboration with a punk rock legend like Armstrong was a dream come true for Max and the band, solidifying their place in the music industry.
Aside from his music career, Max is also a devoted brother and son. In addition to Cole, he has an older sister and another brother named Cade. Their tight-knit family has always been a source of support and inspiration for Max, shaping him into the talented musician he is today.
Max Becker's journey from a young musician in The Raining Souls to a seasoned rocker in Swmrs is a testament to his dedication and talent. He continues to push boundaries and make music that resonates with fans all over the world, solidifying his place in the punk rock scene for years to come.
