Matt Mingus was born on May 1, 1989 in Antioch, California. At the age of 9, he discovered his passion for music when he started playing the drums. Inspired by drummers like Abe Cunningham from Deftones, Mingus dedicated himself to mastering the instrument.
In the early 2000s, Mingus, along with other talented musicians, founded the post-hardcore band Dance Gavin Dance in Sacramento. The band quickly gained a following for their unique sound and energetic performances. Mingus's dynamic drumming style became a signature element of Dance Gavin Dance's music, setting them apart from other bands in the genre. Their album "Downtown Battle Mountain II" reached #2 on the Hot Rock Albums Chart, solidifying their place in the music industry.
Not content to stick to one project, Mingus and his bandmates from Dance Gavin Dance formed the side project Secret Band in 2011.
