Matt Jaffe was born on April 20, 1995, in Greenbrae, California. From a young age, music was a big part of his life. At the age of five, he began learning classical violin, but it wasn't long before he discovered his true passion - the guitar. When he was just 10 years old, he made the decision to switch instruments so that he could start writing his own songs.
After graduating from high school, Matt Jaffe went on to pursue a degree at Yale University. However, his time at college was short-lived as he decided to pursue his music career full-time. It was a risky move, but one that ultimately paid off.
One fateful night at an open mic event, Matt Jaffe caught the attention of Jerry Harrison, the guitarist of the legendary band Talking Heads. Harrison was so impressed by Matt's talent that he offered to mentor him and help him launch his music career.
Before long, Matt Jaffe & The Distractions was born. The band's name pays homage to Elvis Costello's band, The Attractions, showing Matt's appreciation for classic rock and roll.
With his soulful voice and catchy guitar riffs, Matt quickly gained a following. His music resonated with audiences, and he soon found himself playing sold-out shows and music festivals across the country.
