Matiss Kivlenieks was born on August 26, 1996 in Riga, Latvia. He grew up in a close-knit family with his mother, sister, and late father who unfortunately passed away when Matiss was just a young child. Despite facing this early loss, Matiss found solace and passion in the sport of ice hockey.
At the tender age of five, Matiss took up playing goaltender in ice hockey. It quickly became evident that he had a natural talent for the position. As he honed his skills and dedication to the sport, it became clear that he had a promising future ahead of him.
Matiss Kivlenieks' professional career in ice hockey began to take off when he joined the Columbus Blue Jackets for the 2019-2020 season. Over the course of the next two seasons, he showcased his abilities and made a name for himself in the hockey world. In 2017, he even earned the prestigious awards for Goaltender of the Year and Player of the Year in the United States Hockey League, solidifying his status as a rising star in the sport.
One of Matiss' standout moments came on January 19, 2020 when he made his professional hockey debut in a game against the New York Rangers. It was a thrilling 2-1 victory, and it marked the beginning of what could have been a long and successful career for the young goaltender.
