Mark Driscoll was born on November 10, 1970 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He grew up in a Christian household and attended Highline High School in Burien, Washington. Driscoll was known for his leadership abilities even at a young age, serving as the student body President and Editor of the school newspaper. He graduated from Highline High School in 1989.
After high school, Driscoll attended Washington State University where he studied speech communication. It was during his time at university that he felt a calling to ministry. He went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in Exegetical Theology from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon.
In 1996, Driscoll and his wife Grace moved to Seattle, Washington to plant Mars Hill Church. The church quickly grew into a megachurch with thousands of members. Driscoll's preaching style was often described as bold and unapologetic, drawing inspiration from stand-up comedy and pop culture.
