Marian Hossa was born on December 1, 1979, in Slovakia. He comes from a family with a deep connection to ice hockey, as his father, Frantisek Hossa, was a former head coach of the Slovak national ice hockey team.
Hossa began his professional hockey career when he was selected 12th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 1997 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Senators in 1998 and was a runner-up for the Calder Trophy after scoring an impressive 30 points in his rookie season.
