In the early 1960s, Evans worked as a telephone operator for the post office and also as a bouncer at a club part-time. It was during this time that he first encountered The Beatles, who were the resident group at Liverpool's Cavern Club.
Evans first heard The Beatles perform during his lunch break at the Cavern Club. Impressed by their music, he soon became a fan and started frequenting their shows. It was at the Cavern Club where he caught the attention of George Harrison, who recommended him as a doorman to the club's manager.
In 1963, Evans was hired by The Beatles' manager, Brian Epstein, to be a roadie and bodyguard for the band. He quickly became an integral part of their team, contributing to recordings and appearing in some of the films they made. Evans was in charge of driving The Beatles on tour and setting up and testing equipment.
He also took on the task of forging signatures on memorabilia for the band members when they were too busy to do so. Despite his behind-the-scenes role, Evans became a beloved figure among fans and was known for his dedication to the band.
After The Beatles disbanded in 1970, Evans found work as a music producer. He collaborated with artists such as Badfinger, making a name for himself in the music industry. However, tragedy struck on January 5, 1976, when Evans was shot and killed by police at his home in Los Angeles.
Evans had reportedly threatened officers with an air rifle, leading to the fatal confrontation. His untimely death shocked friends, family, and fans alike, marking the end of a colorful and storied career.
