Lee Archambault was born on August 25, 1960, in Oak Park, Illinois. From a young age, he was fascinated by space and aviation, dreaming of one day becoming an astronaut. He pursued his passion by studying aerospace engineering at the United States Air Force Academy, where he graduated with honors.
After graduating from the Air Force Academy, Archambault went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force, where he achieved the rank of Colonel. During his time in the Air Force, he gained extensive experience as a pilot, flying various aircraft and honing his skills in aviation.
Archambault's lifelong dream of becoming an astronaut became a reality when he was selected to join NASA's Astronaut Group 17. He underwent rigorous training and preparation for space missions, ultimately flying two Space Shuttle missions. His first mission was as a pilot, and he later served as the commander of his second mission.
Archambault piloted STS-117, a mission to the International Space Station, where he and his crew conducted various experiments and maintenance tasks. He later went on to command STS-119, another successful mission to the ISS.
During his time at NASA, Archambault served in various roles, including as a CAPCOM (Capsule Communicator) for STS-121. He was known for his exceptional piloting skills and leadership abilities, earning the respect of his colleagues and the admiration of space enthusiasts worldwide.
Outside of his career as an astronaut, Archambault is a devoted husband and father. He is married and has three children, whom he cherishes and supports in all their endeavors.
