At the young age of 13, Kiptum began training for marathons. He displayed a natural talent for long-distance running, quickly surpassing his peers in skill and determination. His dedication to the sport earned him recognition from local coaches and mentors, who saw his potential for success on a larger stage.
Kiptum excelled in the men's 10,000 meters, 10K, and marathon events, showcasing his speed, endurance, and competitive spirit. He also competed in the half marathon, proving his versatility as an athlete. In 2023, Kiptum made international headlines by setting a new world record for the fastest marathon time ever recorded. His incredible feat solidified his status as a rising star in the running community.
Outside of his athletic pursuits, Kiptum cherished his family life. He was happily married to his wife Asenath, with whom he shared a deep bond of love and support. Together, they raised two children, instilling in them the values of hard work, perseverance, and dedication that had defined Kiptum's own journey to success.
Despite his incredible talent and promising future, tragedy struck on February 11, 2024, when Kiptum and his coach Gervais Hakizimana were involved in a fatal road traffic accident near Kaptagat. The news of their untimely deaths sent shockwaves through the running community, mourning the loss of two talented individuals taken too soon.
