Kelly Berger was born on February 24, 1985, in Columbia, Maryland. She grew up in a family that was passionate about lacrosse. Her brother, Stephen, was also a lacrosse midfielder, and their shared love for the sport would ultimately shape Kelly's future career.
After graduating from high school, Kelly attended James Madison University, where she continued to excel in lacrosse. During her time at JMU, she distinguished herself as an exceptional player, ultimately becoming the school's 2nd all-time leading scorer with 262 career points.
