Kathryn D. Sullivan was born on October 3, 1951, in Paterson, New Jersey, to her parents Barbara and Donald. From a young age, she was fascinated by the world around her and had a natural curiosity for science. She attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Sciences. Determined to further her education, she went on to pursue a Ph.D. in Geology from Dalhousie University.
After completing her education, Sullivan made history by becoming the first American woman to walk in space. Her career as a geologist and former NASA astronaut took her on three space shuttle missions: STS-41-G, STS-31, and STS-45. During these missions, she conducted various experiments and studies that contributed to our understanding of space and the universe.
