Jonny Silverstein was born on July 15, 1981, in Toronto, Canada. From a young age, he was drawn to art and creativity, which eventually led him to pursue a career in tattooing. However, before diving into the world of ink, Silverstein pursued a degree in law.
He attended Harvard Law School, where he earned his LLM in International Business, Trade, and Tax Law in 2009. Despite his success in the legal field, Silverstein's true passion lay elsewhere. After working as a photographer and graphic designer for 17 years, he decided to follow his heart and open his own tattoo shop.
In 2017, Silverstein founded The Village Ink, a tattoo shop located in the heart of Toronto. The shop quickly gained recognition as one of the best in the city, winning the title of Toronto's Best Tattoo Shop by the readers of Now magazine.
Although Silverstein is the owner of The Village Ink, he does not personally tattoo clients. Instead, he oversees the operations of the shop and ensures that each customer receives the highest quality service. Despite not being the one behind the needle, Silverstein is proud to have over 40 tattoos of his own, each with its own unique story.
Outside of his work in the tattoo industry, Silverstein is a devoted philanthropist. He has participated in events such as The Ride to Conquer Cancer, a cycling trip through Niagara Falls sponsored by the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Silverstein's dedication to giving back to the community reflects his values and commitment to making a positive impact on the world.
When asked about his greatest inspiration, Silverstein credits his father, Hal, for instilling in him the drive and determination to succeed. He looks up to his father as a role model and strives to emulate his work ethic and values in both his personal and professional life.
One interesting fact about Silverstein is his familial connection to rapper Drake. Drake, who is Silverstein's cousin, has risen to fame in the music industry, while Silverstein has made a name for himself in the world of tattooing. Despite their differing career paths, the two share a close bond, and Silverstein's brother, Jonny, even serves as Drake's assistant.
Overall, Jonny Silverstein's journey from law student to tattoo shop owner is a testament to his passion, creativity, and dedication to his craft. With a strong support system and a drive to give back to the community, Silverstein continues to make a lasting impact in both the tattoo industry and beyond.
