Jim Tressel was born on May 5, 1952 in Mentor, Ohio. From a young age, he showed a passion for football and was determined to make a career in the sport. He attended Mentor High School where he played football and became a standout player on the team.

He quickly became known as one of the top coaches in college football, with a reputation for his strategic thinking and ability to motivate his players.
Outside of football, Tressel is a family man. He married Carol Kujanek in 1976 and they have four children together. Tressel's family has always been a priority for him, and he credits them for his success both on and off the field.
