James Edward Duggan Jr., better known by his ring name 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan, was born on January 14, 1954, in Glens Falls, New York. Growing up, he was always passionate about wrestling and dreamed of becoming a professional wrestler one day.
After completing his high school education, Duggan pursued a degree in applied plant biology from Southern Methodist University. He was a dedicated student, but his true passion for wrestling never wavered.
Duggan made his professional wrestling debut in the late 1970s, starting off in regional promotions before eventually signing with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1987. It was during his time in the WWF that he adopted his iconic persona, 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan, and gained a loyal fan following.
Known for his distinctive look, which included carrying around a 2x4 piece of wood and shouting his catchphrase, "Hoooooo!", Duggan quickly became one of the most recognizable faces in the wrestling world. He was a powerhouse in the ring, using his strength and charisma to captivate audiences around the world.
Throughout his career, Duggan faced off against some of the biggest names in wrestling, including Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and Randy Savage. He was known for his tough-as-nails persona and never backing down from a challenge.
Outside of the ring, Duggan is a devoted family man. He is the proud father of two daughters, Celia and Rebecca, whom he shares with his wife Debra. Despite his busy wrestling career, Duggan always made time for his family and cherished the moments spent with them.
In 1998, Duggan was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Despite facing this health challenge, he continued to wrestle and inspire fans with his bravery. He eventually overcame the disease and became a vocal advocate for cancer awareness and prevention.
