His energetic personality and love for music quickly made him a fan-favorite, earning him the title of award-winning radio DJ. He had a knack for discovering new talent and was known for his keen ear for hit songs.
One of Connors' biggest claims to fame was launching the career of singer Harry Chapin. He stumbled upon Chapin's hit song "Taxi" and knew instantly that it was a hit. He played the song on air, catapulting Chapin to stardom. The two became close friends, with Chapin even writing a song about Connors' life titled "W*O*L*D."
Connors' personal life was tumultuous, with two failed marriages and four children. Despite his success in the radio industry, he struggled with personal demons that ultimately led to his untimely death. At the age of 46, Connors was killed in a tragic car crash on Interstate 95 while traveling from Florida to Rhode Island.
