Jessica Lynch was born on April 26, 1983, in West Virginia. Growing up, she faced financial difficulties as her parents, Deidre and Gregory Lynch, struggled to make ends meet. Despite wanting to attend college, Lynch was unable to due to their financial constraints.
In 2001, Lynch made the decision to join the U.S. Army as a way to serve her country and pursue a better life. Little did she know, this decision would change the course of her life forever.
During the Iraq War in 2003, Lynch's life took a dramatic turn when she was captured and taken as a prisoner of war by Iraqi forces. She endured unspeakable hardships during her time in captivity, facing physical and emotional trauma.
However, Lynch's story took a miraculous turn when she was rescued by U.S. Special Operations Forces on April 1, 2003. She became the first female prisoner-of-war to be successfully rescued and the first POW rescued by the United States since WWII.
After her harrowing ordeal, Lynch found solace in the love and support of her family and friends. She and her partner, Wes Robinson, welcomed a daughter named Dakota Ann on January 19, 2007. Dakota was named in honor of Lynch's best friend, Army Spc. Lori Ann Piestewa, who was the first woman killed in combat in Iraq.
