Jeff Blashill was born on October 12, 1973, in Michigan. He began his hockey career as a goaltender for the USHL's Des Moines Buccaneers from 1991 to 1994. Blashill then went on to play college hockey at Ferris State University, where he was named the Rookie of the Year in 1994. During his time at Ferris State, he also earned a spot on the CCHA All-Academic team in 1997.
