James Christian Shaffer, better known as Munky, was born on June 6, 1970 in Rosedale, California. He grew up in a musical family, with his mother playing the piano and his father playing the guitar. It was no surprise when he showed an interest in music at a young age.
At the age of just 11, tragedy struck when Munky lost part of his finger in an accident on his three-wheeler. However, this setback did not deter him from pursuing his passion for music. In fact, it was during his rehabilitation that he began to play the guitar, using it as a form of therapy for his hand.
Munky's journey to fame began when he co-founded the nü metal band Korn in 1993. With their unique sound and heavy riffs, Korn quickly rose to prominence in the music industry. Munky's distinctive guitar playing style became a trademark of the band, earning him a loyal fan base around the world.
Outside of his music career, Munky has had his share of personal ups and downs. He was married to Stephanie Rouch from 2000 to 2004, and later tied the knot with Evis X. Shaffer on January 2, 2012. The couple has been blessed with two sons, D'Angelo and Rocky, and in the summer of 2019, they welcomed their third child into the world.
Musically, Munky draws inspiration from guitar legends such as Eddie Van Halen. His dedication to his craft and innovative playing style have solidified his place in the pantheon of rock and metal guitar greats. As a co-founder of Korn, he has left a lasting legacy in the world of nü metal, influencing countless musicians and shaping the genre for generations to come.
As Munky continues to rock out on stage and inspire fans with his powerful riffs, one thing is for certain - his passion for music is truly unrivaled.
