Elias Jack Goodhue, commonly known as Jack Goodhue, was born on June 13, 1995, in Whangarei, New Zealand. He grew up on a farm in Whananaki near Hikurangi, along with his older brother Cameron and his twin Josh, both of whom would also go on to pursue professional rugby careers.
Goodhue attended Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland, where he excelled both academically and athletically. His twin brother captained their school's top rugby side, while Jack held the position of vice-captain. After completing his secondary education, Goodhue made the decision to move to the South Island of New Zealand to pursue further studies in agriculture at Lincoln University.
During his time at Lincoln University, Goodhue showcased his rugby talents by playing for both the Colts and Division 1 teams. He proved to be a formidable force on the field, helping lead his teams to victory and clinching titles at both levels of competition.
