Hoàng Châu was born Nguyen Thi Yen Khoa on September 26, 1976, in Vietnam. She grew up in a musical family, as both of her parents were former members of the Vietnam War Dance Troupe. They instilled in her a love for music and performing from a young age.
Upon completing her high school education, Hoàng Châu went on to pursue a college degree at the Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts. It was during her time at college that she discovered her passion for folk music and began honing her vocal talents.
After graduating from college, Hoàng Châu embarked on her musical career by singing folk music and making appearances in music videos. Her unique voice and stage presence quickly caught the attention of music fans and industry professionals alike.
In the late 1990s, Hoàng Châu was signed as an exclusive singer by Van Village Center, her first major record label. This opportunity led to her relocating to the United States, where she hoped to further expand her musical career and reach a wider audience.

In 2006, Hoàng Châu married director Dong Giao, with whom she shares a son. Despite her busy schedule as a music artist, she cherishes her time spent with her family and values their support and love.
