Gzuz, born Jonas Klauss on June 29, 1988, in Hamburg, Germany, grew up in a turbulent household. His parents divorced when he was young, leaving him to be raised by his mother and older sister. Despite the challenges he faced at home, Gzuz found solace in music and quickly developed a passion for hip hop.
In 2006, Gzuz began performing under the stage name Gzuz and caught the attention of the underground rap scene in Germany. Three years later, in 2009, he joined forces with like-minded artists to form the hip hop crew 187 Street Gang. Together, they began to make waves in the German music industry, blending gritty lyrics with infectious beats to create a unique sound.
Despite his growing success, Gzuz's personal life was marred by legal troubles. In 2010, he was arrested for predatory theft and spent time in jail. This setback only served to fuel his determination to succeed in the music industry. In 2012, his bandmates launched the Free Gzuz Tour as a show of support, selling merchandise to raise awareness for his legal battle.
Despite his legal issues, Gzuz continued to hone his craft and collaborate with other artists. One of his most successful partnerships was with fellow 187 member Bonez MC. Together, they released the album High & Hungry, which quickly climbed the German charts, and its sequel, High & Hungry 2, which debuted at number one.
In addition to his work with 187 Street Gang, Gzuz also found success as a solo artist. His album Ebbe & Flut reached number two on the German charts, solidifying his reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the rap world.
Gzuz's music is often compared to that of rap legend Tupac, as he tackles issues of violence, poverty, and struggle in his lyrics. He has become a voice for the disenfranchised youth of Germany, using his platform to shed light on social issues that are often overlooked.
