Greg Laughlin was born on January 21, 1942, in Texas, where he was raised in the towns of Bay City and West Columbia. He attended Texas A&M University, where he studied law and political science. Laughlin's interest in public service was evident from a young age, as he was always involved in student government and community activities.
After graduating from Texas A&M, Laughlin briefly served in the United States Army before deciding to pursue a career in law. He attended law school and eventually became an attorney in Houston, Texas. Laughlin's sharp legal mind and dedication to justice soon led to him being appointed as an Assistant District Attorney in Houston.
Laughlin's passion for public service and his desire to make a difference in his community led him to enter the world of politics. In 1989, he ran for office as a Democrat and was elected to represent Texas' fourteenth district in the United States House of Representatives. During his time in Congress, Laughlin focused on issues such as healthcare, education, and veterans' rights.
Despite his initial affiliation with the Democratic Party, Laughlin made the decision to switch to the Republican Party during his time in office. This move allowed him to secure a seat on the prestigious House Ways and Means Committee, where he worked on important tax and budgetary issues.
