Fernando Tatís was born on January 1, 1975, in the Dominican Republic. He showed an interest in baseball from a young age and began playing in local leagues. His talent was recognized early on, and at the age of 17, he was signed by the Texas Rangers.
Tatís made his major league debut in 1997 with the Texas Rangers, where he played for two seasons before being traded to the St. Louis Cardinals. It was during his time with the Cardinals that he made history by hitting two grand slams in a single inning of a game in 1999, setting a single-game RBI record with eight. That same year, he also hit a career-high 34 home runs.
Throughout his 11-year career in the big leagues, Tatís was known for his powerful hitting and solid defensive skills at third base. He was a key player on several teams, including the Montreal Expos, where he played alongside power-hitting right fielder Vladimir Guerrero.
