Felix Juan Trinidad Garcia was born on October 10, 1973, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. He was the youngest of six children in a close-knit family. From a young age, Trinidad showed a natural talent for boxing, inspired by his father, who was also a boxer.
Trinidad began his professional boxing career in June 1993, with a knockout victory against Maurice Blocker. Over the next few years, he quickly rose through the ranks, showcasing his exceptional skills and power in the ring. He held multiple titles throughout his career, including the IBF welterweight title and the WBA middleweight title.
One of Trinidad's most memorable fights was against Oscar De La Hoya on September 18, 1999, where he defeated the Golden Boy to retain his IBF welterweight title. This victory solidified Trinidad's status as one of the top boxers in the world at the time.
On January 19, 2008, Trinidad faced off against Roy Jones, Jr. in what would be his final professional fight. Despite a valiant effort, Trinidad lost via unanimous decision. The fight marked the end of an era for the Puerto Rican champion, as he announced his retirement shortly after.
Outside of the ring, Trinidad was a devoted family man. He married his childhood acquaintance, Sharon Santiago, after a period of courtship. Together, they have three daughters named Ashley, Alayah, and Leysha, as well as a son named Larysha. Trinidad's family provided him with unwavering support throughout his career.
